How it started.

Almost a decade ago, I was working as a lifeguard, saving up for a car, and ended up with a 2014 Mustang. It felt like a car worth taking care of, so I started detailing it myself and people noticed. A friend asked me to do theirs. Then a few more friends did the same. Word got around.

By the time COVID hit in 2020, there was enough steady demand that I used the shutdown to go deeper. I studied paint correction methodically. I learned from top mentors in the industry, paired with hours of hands-on practice on my own vehicle and my family's cars to get it right. People trusted me with their cars while I built that skill, and I don't take that lightly. By the following summer, I'd gone full time, and I haven't looked back since.

Since then, the business has grown from one guy detailing cars in driveways into Rhett's Auto, a company that handles detailing, paint correction, ceramic coatings, light mechanical work, and vehicle consignment sales. It's still mobile, and it's still me showing up to do the work myself because that personal touch is exactly what got this business started, and it's what keeps people coming back.

How it's run

Four things that don't change.

  • One person does the work

    Rhett quotes it, does it, and hands it back. Nobody gets handed off to a rotating crew, and there's no manager to escalate to because there's no layer to escalate past.

  • The price is published

    Every detailing service on this site has a number attached. You can build a full job and see the total without talking to anyone. The old way, text a photo, wait for a quote, was slower for both of us.

  • Bad news comes early

    If a vehicle needs more than the booking described, you hear it before the work starts. If a defect can't be fixed, you hear that too. Nothing gets added to a bill after the fact.

  • Some jobs get turned down

    No window tint, no paint protection film (PPF). Those are separate trades and doing them occasionally is how people get bad results. Same for engine and transmission work.
