Fix the paint, then keep it fixed.

Coating unfixed paint seals the swirls in permanently. So decon comes first, correction second, coating last. In that order, every time.

  1. Strip it

    $100

    Iron decon and a strip wash pull the bonded contamination and any old wax off the clear coat. Skip this and the polish just drags grit across the panel.

  2. Fix it

    $200–$400

    Machine polishing removes the swirls and scratches that are actually in the paint. One stage handles most cars. Two stages is for heavier defects and dark paint, where everything shows.

  3. Keep it

    $40–$300

    A coating is the part that lasts. It bonds to the corrected paint so washing gets easier and the gloss holds instead of fading back over a season.
